Princeville Capital publishes white paper: The Rise of Technology in a Post Pandemic World

The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID) crisis has led many financial stakeholders – including limited partners, investors, and founders – to seek insights into the long-term impact on businesses, portfolios, and technology in general.

As global technology investors, we have had a somewhat unique vantage point throughout the pandemic; our global footprint has allowed us to closely observe the performance of businesses across a wide range of industries, verticals, as well as geographies.  We have observed, broadly, that COVID has accelerated several paradigm shifts which, prior to the pandemic, were already emerging as prominent technology themes.  We believe that technology is a clear net beneficiary, but the pandemic will affect different sectors and geographies in different ways.  Companies following certain strategies will also be unevenly affected.  Finally, some of these effects will be temporary and others long lasting.  Like in every crisis, the current pandemic offers a large and unique opportunity for those investors and companies who know how to take advantage of it.

In this white paper titled “Transforming Landscapes: The Rise of Technology in a Post Pandemic World", we offer our perspectives on why a subset of these paradigm shifts might be here to stay in an even more powerful and pervasive manner.  Moreover, we believe that these trends have driven a re-rating of several technology verticals, some of which have already seen validation in the public markets.

At the same time, the COVID-induced recession has given us our first glimpse at how different technology business models might perform during a downturn, which most private technology companies are encountering for the very first time.  It is our hope that these findings will allow readers to best position their businesses and portfolios for the future by:

(1)   taking advantage of accelerating technology-driven secular trends while still in their relative infancy; and

(2)   understanding the opportunity and vulnerability of different technology models to a recession, and adjusting your exposure to these models to better reflect your risk appetite.

Our findings draw heavily from our private investment activities in various global geographies, including learnings derived from our own portfolio companies.
